A recent partnership with Syston and Melton Senior Social Prescriber, Raj, has led to groups of dementia patients and their carers joining the Baldwin Trust for a cruise, making treasured memories along the way.
The Baldwin Trust learned of the support groups for dementia patients initiated by Raj at the Syston Health Centre and wanted to offer a therapeutic cruise for participants to help forge the supportive relationships the group created. Through our Supported Cruises program, the Trust were able to offer substantially reduced cost trips to the groups, funded by kind donations from local businesses, including Soane Thurmaston, Fred Sherwood and British Gypsum.
Raj gave the following feedback:
“On behalf of our patients with dementia and their caregivers, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to enjoy the narrowboat trips you so generously provided today. The experience was nothing short of fantastic for everyone involved.
The tranquillity of the waterways and the gentle pace of the narrowboat journeys created an environment that greatly benefited our patients. These trips offered them a chance to connect with nature, experience a sense of calm, and recall fond memories, which are all incredibly therapeutic for individuals with dementia. For the caregivers, these trips provided a much-needed respite and a joyful shared experience with their loved ones.
Your kindness and thoughtfulness in making these trips available does not go unnoticed, and we are very appreciative of the Baldwin Trust’s dedication to improving the lives of those living with dementia. Thank you once again for making such a positive impact on our patients and their caregivers.”
